How to Choose a Restaurant POS System in India
What to look for in a restaurant POS in India: offline billing, GST invoices, UPI payments, kitchen display, table management, inventory and multi-outlet reports.

A restaurant POS is the system your whole day runs on: every order, bill and payment goes through it. Pick the wrong one and you feel it at the worst moment, when the internet drops during the Friday dinner rush and the counter stops.
Here is a practical checklist for choosing a restaurant POS in India, whether you run a café, a QSR, a bar or a cloud kitchen.
1. It must keep billing when the internet fails
This is the first question to ask. Many cloud POS systems need a live connection to create a bill. An offline-first POS keeps taking orders, printing bills and recording payments on the device, then syncs to the cloud when the connection returns.
2. GST invoicing that is correct by default
Your POS should produce proper GST invoices with the right taxes, and handle discounts and split bills without manual corrections.
3. Every payment method your customers use
Cash, UPI and cards are the minimum in India. A UPI QR on the bill saves time at the counter and reduces payment errors.
4. Fast, simple hardware
You should not need a PC and a server in the back room. An Android phone or tablet with a 58 mm or 80 mm Bluetooth thermal printer is enough for most outlets, and billing should take seconds, not minutes.
5. Kitchen display
A kitchen display system (KDS) shows orders on a screen in the kitchen with status stages, so the counter and the kitchen see the same order state. It ends lost paper KOTs and "where is table 6's order?".
6. Tables and floor management
For dine-in, look for table maps, waiter assignment, moving and merging tables, and ordering straight from the floor.
7. Staff controls
Separate PIN logins with role-based access, shift open and close, and blind cash counts with variance tracking. These protect both the owner and honest staff.
8. Inventory and back office
Stock levels, suppliers, purchases, low-stock alerts and expenses in the same system as sales. Many Indian restaurants also need a customer credit (udhaar) ledger.
9. Reports and multi-outlet control
Day-wise sales reports at minimum. If you plan to grow, check that one account can run several outlets with separate reports for each.
10. Clear, predictable pricing
Prefer a clear subscription you can manage yourself over large upfront hardware and setup costs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the most important feature in a restaurant POS?
Reliable billing during internet outages. If the POS stops when the connection drops, the counter stops during the rush. Look for an offline-first POS that syncs later.
Do I need a computer to run a restaurant POS?
No. Modern Android POS apps run on a phone or tablet with an optional Bluetooth thermal printer, so you do not need a PC or server in the back office.
Should a restaurant POS include inventory?
Yes, at least basic stock, purchases and low-stock alerts. Linking sales to stock is what shows you wastage and theft.
Can one POS manage multiple outlets?
Good ones can. Look for one account that controls several outlets, with separate day-wise reports for each.
